Hallo Zusammen [winken],

Technology comprises all the means and activities by which human beings seek to change and manipulate their environment by using the natural laws. The age of the Industrial Revolution is characterized by the vast development of technology, production and science.

Utopian literature comprises speculative writings which describe the best form of human society. It refers to a vision of a future society which is unrealistisc and impossible optimistic.
The opposition of utopian literature is dystopian literature. Dystopian literature is defined as a futuristic, imagined universe in which an oppressive social control and the illusionof a perfect society are maintained through corporate, technological, moral or totalitarian control. Characteristics of a dystopian society are propaganda which is used to control the citizens of society, information, independent thoughts and freedom are restricted as well as citizens who live in a dehumanized state.
The protagonist (gibts dafür eigentlich ein gutes Synonym, außer figure?) of the literature often feels trapped and struggles to escape and believes or feels that something is terrible wrong with the society in which the protagonist lives. He or she questions the existing social and political systems and the protagonist helps the readers to recognize the negative aspects of the dystopian world through his or her perspective.
