(1) The text "America´s Cup" mainly deals with the histories of tea and coffee and also reveals it´s popularities in the United States during the past and today. In the beginning the author makes it clear that colonists back in the past drank zea as well as coffee. Furthermore, he mentions that after the American Revolution tea was not as popular anymore and Americans turned towards coffee. But the switch didn´t last more than twenty years, because tea was simply cheaper. After the War of 1812, when tea became unavailable, coffee experienced it´s permanent takeover in popularity, which would last until today.
(2) Generally the text seems very convincing and exposes a bunch of background information about that topic. In the beginning he explains how tea was taken over by the Boston Tea Party. He also talks about how both beverages were popular until G. Washington refused to rescind the tax on tea in 1770, and how the coffee bean was developed in Brazil by the erly 1800s
(3) In fact, the author´s linguistic choices expose prevalently a plain, neutral style, but he is also very firm and adamant to his subject matter. Furthermore, he is able to give his readers, whose are in the role of educated laymen, a broad spectrum with information about his theme.
